SCANDAL-PSYCHIATRIST EXPELLED IN THE FAROE ISLANDS

National Hospital in Torshavn

Psychiatric Centre at the national hospital in Torshavn, last year fired and expelled the now convicted psychiatrist Piet Casier. As chief doctor Tormóður Stórá became aware of a number of articles in the trade union 3F journal, Piet Casier was asked to go to his Office, pick up his stuff and leave the premises.

In the same period of time that Piet Casier wrote medical statements for a wide variety of Danish municipalities, the disputed and today sentenced specialist in Psychiatry, applied for more jobs far out in the Atlantic.

Between 2009-2014 Piet Casier worked in periods as Psychiatrist (temporary employment) at the Psychiatric Center at the national hospital in Torshavn. Here he, among other things, wrote medical declarations to the Faroese social agency and made mental examinations. Each of the Faroese patients had difficulty understanding his Danish language, but there was nothing to expose on Piet Casiers clinical work. And no one complained about him, said Tormóður Stórá who is senior consultant at the Psychiatric Center at the National Hospital in Torshavn.

-Before Piet Casier was employed at the hospital in Torshavn Faroe Islands, the hospital had checked him with the health protection agency in Denmark. Here there was nothing registered on him, says Tormóður Stórá.

Hidden complaints and firing

Piet Casier suppressed the information to his Faroese employer, that he was fired by the Danish workers’ compensation Agency in 2011 – among other things due to complaints. And suppressed the information that the health care Disciplinary Board at least five times since 2011 made harsh criticism of his work. Partly because Piet Casier in specialist medical statements accused citizens for lying themself sick.

It came to Tormóður Stórá`s knowledge on the 25. of August 2014, when he became aware of a series of articles in the trade union 3F journal.

-My immediate reaction when I read the articles, was irritation and anger at the fact that I was not informed about this. Neither by Piet Casier or others, says Tormóður Stórá, who that same day contacted the health protection agency in Denmark.

Expelled immediately

The following days Tormóður Stórá got the relevant information from the health protection agency and took contact to the lawyer at the national hospital in Torshavn.

Piet Casier was called to a meeting with Tormóður Stórá on the 28. of August last year. And after another meeting with the human resources department the day after the decision was made.

-Piet Casier was expelled and asked to go to his Office, pick up his stuff and leave the premises. He has not worked here since, and I have not had contact with or heard from him since, said Tormóður Stórá.

The trade union 3F journal has unsuccessfully tried to get a comment from Piet Casier about his firing and the dismissal of him on the Faroe Islands.
