December, 2003: British drug regulators recommended against the use of antidepressants in the treatment of depressed children

At the request of Pfizer, Shaffer sent a letter to the British drug agency saying that there was insufficient data to restrict the use of the drugs in adolescents.
August, 2006 Shaffer participates in a study that
says children who committed suicide were 15 times more likely to have been on antidepressants.
