A FORMER Toowoomba psychiatrist has been charged with two counts of rape.

The 48-year-old accused man, who under Queensland law cannot be named unless committed to stand trial on the matters, was not required to be in Toowoomba Magistrates Court today for the brief mention of the case.

However, he was represented by solicitor Terani Inoke of Brisbane-based legal firm Avant Law who appeared before the court by telephone.

Ms Inoke told the court her firm had received the police brief of evidence last week but were still awaiting two witness statements and so sought an adjournment of about one month.

No particular details of the case were aired in court but it is believed both charges relate to the one complainant who is believed to have been a patient at the time of the alleged incidents said to have occurred in about 2013.

The accused man has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges and remains at large on bail.

Magistrate Kay Ryan enlarged the accused man’s bail and adjourned the case for committal mention back in Toowoomba Magistrates Court next month.
