DUMONT, N.J. – A New York City psychiatrist has been arrested and charged with sexual assault upon an underage female, authorities say.Ashrap M. Amin, 42, of East Elmhurst, New York, was arrested on Thursday, November 19 by members of the Dumont Police Department, under the direction of Chief Brian Venezio, along with the county’s Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit.
The investigation commenced after law enforcement reportedly learned that Amin had engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct in the presence of the girl during the month of May, 2009. The incident allegedly took place in Amin’s home, and the victim reported the incident to authorities in October.
Ashrap Amin is reported to be a psychiatrist at Metropolitan Hospital on 96th Street in New York City. He is married.
Amin has been charged with one count of sexual assault (2nd degree crime), and one count of endangering the welfare of a child (2nd degree crime).
Bail was set for Amin by Judge Harry Carroll at $100,000.00 with no 10% option, no contact with the victim, and the surrender of his passport. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
