The state Board of Medical Examiners has suspended the medical license of a Billings child psychiatrist who last year pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

The Billings Gazette reports that the board suspended Dr. James H. Peak’s license on May 18 and made the action public Monday.

Peak was already suspended from Billings Clinic, where he had worked since 1994, and he had voluntarily surrendered his medical license.

His license was scheduled to expire in March 2013. If the 50-year-old Peak seeks to reinstate it, the board must consider the request.

Peak pleaded guilty in August to possessing child pornography, admitting that he bought and received material through the mail.

The judge said there was no indication he ever touched a child inappropriately.
