A Kenton County psychiatrist who attacked a patient with a sword was sentenced Tuesday.

Dr. Douglas Rank, 52, will spend the next 15 years in prison.

Rank pled guilty to assault in October. He was originally charged with attempted murder after police officers found one of his patients suffering from stab wounds to the chest and abdomen in an apartment above Rank’s office in February.

The two were in a romantic relationship at the time.

Both attempted murder and first-degree assault carry sentences of 10 years to 15 years in prison.

Rank’s medical license was suspended after the attack.
