FORT WORTH – A psychiatrist and an office manager affiliated
with the scandal-plagued Psychiatric Institute of Fort Worth
were sentenced to federal prison Monday for mail fraud and
conspiracy convictions.
Dr. Henry Edward Eugene Bonham, 55, and Beverly Bulger, 38,
were convicted by a federal jury March 28 of lying about
medical treatment that was never provided.
Bonham was sentenced to 7 1/4 years in prison and ordered to pay
$ 3.6 million in restitution. Bulger was sentenced to three
years and 10 months in prison. Each was convicted on a
conspiracy count and 22 mail fraud counts. Bonham also was
convicted of making a false claim to a federal agency.
Attorneys for both said their clients would appeal.
Bonham and Bulger were the latest on a long list of people
punished stemming from their work at the Fort Worth clinic.
They were accused of filing thousands of dollars in
fraudulent insurance claims with federal and private insurance
carriers. Bonham also was accused of receiving money from the
institute for admitting patients there and of charging for
services not rendered.
