Doctor disciplined for prescribing painkillers for himself

A Scottsdale psychiatrist has been disciplined by the State Board of Medical Examiners after admitting to prescribing thousands of prescriptions for pain killers — mostly for himself.
Dr. Daniel Glick told Board of Medical Examiners members that pain in his back forced him to need ten to twelve doses of the powerful narcotic Lortab a day for the last three years.
“The amount that was stated in the report was 14,000 to 15,000 doses,” board spokesman Pete Wertheim told Phoenix television station KPHO. “Certainly, the doctor could not account for the reason for that other than the pain that he’s suffered due to back injury.”
The board issued a decree of censure along with two years probation and 96 hours of evaluation. That’s the harshest step it can take short of revoking Glick’s medical license.
Additionally, Glick’s license for prescribing narcotic drugs was suspended and he was ordered to an inpatient program for evaluation of possible drug addiction and treatment.
Glick’s north Scottsdale psychiatric office is still open and Glick can still treat patients. The Drug Enforcement Administration also is investigating.
