Psychiatrist jailed for endangerment;
Dr. Luttrell also charged in Fayette County with illegal possession of firearm

SOMERVILLE – A Memphis psychiatrist was arrested Friday on charges of reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm, according to authorities.
Dr. Mark Luttrell, 47, was in the Fayette County Jail on Friday awaiting an arraignment Monday in General Sessions Court here.
Luttrell was medical director of the Shelby County Jail during the administration of former sheriff A.C. Gilless.
Luttrell is no relation to current Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell, said the sheriff’s spokesman, Steve Shular.
A woman who answered the telephone at the Luttrell home near Fisherville identified herself as Luttrell’s wife, Barbara.
“It is a total mixup,” she said. “His car was at the side of the road and had a bad alternator. I don’t know what is going on.”
She declined to elaborate, and hung up the telephone.
Fayette County Sheriff Bobby Riles said the case remained under investigation late Friday afternoon.
Fayette County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ray Garcia said details of the arrest were not immediately available Friday evening.
Officers armed with a warrant searched Luttrell’s home on Key Road, near Herb Parsons Lake, just east of the Shelby County line.
They approached the brown brick house behind a wooden fence about 3 p.m., and gained entry. An hour later, they called for backup.
Several goats and dogs were roaming in fenced areas of the front, side and back yards.
The search warrant, which outlines what officers expected to find, will not be made public until after Monday’s arraignment, officials said.
State records indicate Luttrell practices at 4841 Summer Ave. in the Berclair area.
His state licensing records show no disciplinary actions or prior offenses.
