Psychiatrist faces sex assault charges

A Granite Bay psychiatrist has been arrested and his medical license suspended after a female patient said he groped her, authorities said.
Mandeep Behniwal, 50, was arrested Nov. 20, three days after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, police said.
Behniwal allegedly touched the patient after a session in his Sacramento office, said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran.
Behniwal has been charged with several counts of sexual assault, including sexual exploitation by a physician, Curran said. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison and be required to register as a sex offender, according to Curran.
