Dr. Mohammad Omar Mohabbat was charged with second-degree sexual abuse and harassment on Sept. 26.
A grand jury indicted him that day after hearing evidence from an investigation conducted by the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit and other agencies, said homicide unit assistant commander Lt. Kip Hart.
The investigation began after law enforcement received a complaint of improper conduct between Mohabbat and a patient. He was charged Thursday, arrested and released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $10,000 bond that day.
Mohabbat’s license to practice medicine in Alabama was issued in 1984, according to the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama. He studied at Kabul Medical Institute in Afghanistan, according to the board.
