State medical board suspends Andover psychiatrist
A doctor disciplined by the New Hampshire Board of Medicine also has been suspended in Massachusetts, state officials said Monday.
The state Board of Registration in Medicine announced it had suspended Dr. Jeffrey S. Shapiro, a psychiatrist and neurologist from Andover.
The board voted to take action against Shapiro on Wednesday after finding his continued practice of medicine posed a serious threat to public health.
In a statement of allegations, the board said Shapiro had been disciplined by the New Hampshire Board of Medicine for borrowing money from patients and improperly prescribing controlled substances.
The board also alleged he had illegally written prescriptions in Massachusetts.
Shapiro will have a chance to contest the suspension at a hearing of the Division of Administrative Law Appeals.
Shapiro’s phone number is unlisted and he could not be reached for comment Monday.
