Doc Sentenced To Treat Medicaid Patients For Free

A judge Friday ordered a psychiatrist to treat all his Medicaid patients free-of-charge for six months as part of his sentence for Medicaid fraud.

Westchester County Court Judge Nicholas Colabella also sentenced Martin Wayne, 51, of Briarcliff Manor to five years probation, 104 hours of community service at the White Plains Veterans Outreach Program plus another 150 hours of community service to be determined.

Wayne has already repaid $45,000 plus $5,000 interest for the money he admitted stealing in September.
According to Edward Kuriansky, the deputy attorney general for Medicaid Fraud Control, said the theft occurred between Jan. 1, 1983 and Jan. 31, 1986, by falsely billing Medicaid for many more psychotherapy sessions than he had actually provided.

Sonya Hoover, a spokesman for Kuriansky, said Wayne had at least 45 Medicaid patients.
