Syracuse psychiatrist, 82, accused of illegally selling prescription for drug used to treat heroin addictions

Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse doctor has been charged with illegally selling a prescription for Suboxone, a drug often used to treat heroin addictions, according to court documents.

Kiyoshi Kimura, 82, was caught selling the prescription to an undercover detective with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office for $350 on March 3, a criminal complaint says. The complaint against Kimura was publicly filed in City Criminal Court in early April.

Kimura faces the felony charge of criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance. “The defendant did so in other than good faith in the course of his professional practice,” the complaint says. Kimura is not being held in jail.

Deputy Herb Wiggins, a sheriff’s spokesperson, declined multiple requests for comment.

Kimura is a practicing psychiatrist who graduated from Tokyo Medical University in 1956, state records show. He is listed as having offices on Erie Boulevard West in Syracuse and on Euclid Avenue in the city of Cortland.

Calls made to Kimura’s office were not answered.
