Autism doctor operating in Florida has Maryland license suspended
Maryland regulators have suspended the medical license of a doctor whose South Florida office treats autistic children with a chemical castration drug, calling the treatment unproven and a potential danger.
Dr. Mark Geier opened a small Tamarac office of his multi-state ASD Centers about a year ago with help from a local doctor, and has treated a few autistic children with the testosterone-lowering drug Lupron. The drug most commonly is used to treat prostate cancer.
After investigating for two years, Maryland\’s Board of Physicians suspended Geier\’s license. Florida\’s Board of Medicine has taken no disciplinary action against Geier\’s medical license issued in this state in 2008. The Florida board does not disclose a complaint unless an initial review finds probable cause to warrant further investigation.
Geier\’s South Florida associate, Dr. David Clayman, declined to comment Thursday.
