PSYCHIATRIST ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING PATIENTS APPEARS IN COURT
The New Hartford psychiatrist who is accused of sex crimes against patients appeared in Utica City Court on Thursday.
September 6, 2018
Dr. Surendra Johri was acquitted on sexual abuse charges back in June and then pleaded not guilty to new charges of sexual abuse and forcible touching, both misdemeanors.
There is still no decision on the prosecution’s effort to consolidate the charges against him, and still no trial date.
Johri is accused of touching a female patient sexually in 2017 when he was working as a psychiatrist at Community Health Behavioral Services in Utica. In a separate case, Johri faces the same sexual abuse and forcible touching charges following accusations from another alleged victim.
On Thursday, attorneys for both sides made arguments for and against consolidating the cases, which involve two different victims.
Johri is due back in court on Friday, Sept. 14, but the judge told the attorneys that he will likely have his decision before then.
