Dr. Royle Miralles, psychiatrist at Wayne County Behavioral Health Network who was disciplined by the state for professional misconduct and then suspended with pay by the county, has agreed to resign to resolve the internal investigation.

The county Board of Supervisors agreed this week to the plan, which includes paying Miralles nearly $11,000 in accrued vacation time.

Miralles has been the county’s highest paid employee at a salary of $179,923.

The state accused him of negligence involving seven patients from 2002 through 2008. Miralles admitted to negligence on one occasion and agreed to five years of probation during which he may only practice medicine while being monitored by another board-certified psychiatrist.
