Thousand Oaks Doctor Pleads No Contest to Automobile Insurance Fraud Case: 2020021659

VENTURA, Calif. – District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Dr. Sanjay Masson (DOB 06/26/65), a Moorpark resident and Thousand Oaks area psychiatrist, pled no contest to charges of auto insurance fraud on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Masson was charged with two counts of knowingly submitting fraudulent insurance claims. Masson contacted Progressive Insurance in February 2020 and filed a claim for compensation under his policy. Masson is charged with changing his insurance policy to have a lower deductible and then filing a claim for compensation citing a false date for the problem with his vehicle in order to use the newer, lower deductible.

The case was referred to the District Attorney’s Office by the National Insurance Crime Bureau on behalf of Progressive Insurance and then investigated by our office. Senior Deputy District Attorney Mike Frawley, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Auto Insurance Fraud Unit, prosecuted the case.

Masson is scheduled to be sentenced on February 10, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 12 of the Ventura County Superior Court. Automobile insurance fraud is punishable by up to five years in county jail and a fine up to $50,000, or double the amount of fraud, whichever is greater.
