Jury convicts former Wyoming psychiatrist in DUI crash

CODY — A former Wyoming psychiatrist has been found guilty of several charges stemming from a crash that injured another person.

A jury in Cody convicted Matthew Hopkins of intentional misuse of a toxic product, controlled substance DUI and aggravated assault.

The Cody Enterprise reports that District Judge David Park sentenced Hopkins to 18 to 36 months of prison, with credit for a little over two months he served last summer in jail.

Prosecutors said Hopkins had been inhaling compressed air before the wreck occurred on March 14, 2017.

Defense attorney Michael Bennett questioned the aggravated assault charge and said he would appeal the conviction to the state Supreme Court.
