Assault Lawsuit
LENGTH: 204 words
DATELINE: SANTA ANA
A psychiatrist who gave up his medical license and the convicted child molester who lived with him were sued by a former patient who
said the two sexually assaulted him on the pretext of providing therapy.
The plaintiff, who was 16 years old in 1994 when treatment began, accused Dr. Burnell G. Forgey, 80, and James Crummel, 54, of fondling him and
performing sex acts, the Orange County Register reported.
The suit said that, after Forgey began treatment, he suggested the boy come to his home by saying therapy sessions would continue there.
Forgey and Crummel have been charged in the case and are scheduled to appear in Harbor Municipal Court tomorrow for a preliminary hearing.
Crummel also is awaiting trial on charges he murdered a 13-year-old Costa Mesa boy in 1979.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, saying the youth requires continued medical treatment and the alleged assaults have interfered with his ability to
make a living.
Crummel has a history of child molestation that goes back 30 years. He was convicted of murdering a boy in Arizona in 1967, but the conviction was
overturned. He pleaded guilty to kidnapping, and the case was never retried.
