Psychiatrist accused of fraud:
A Downers Grove man who was medical director of the now- shuttered Rock Creek Center in Lemont has been accused of defrauding Medicare of more than $875,000 by billing for services he never performed or submitting claims that were more expensive than the services he actually provided. Naseem Chaudhry, 49, was charged with 14 counts of health-care fraud in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald announced Friday in Chicago. Chaudhry could face up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 fines for each count if he is convicted.
Fugitive nabbed in DuPage:
A convicted child sex offender from Wisconsin has been picked up near Willowbrook by DuPage County sheriff police and federal authorities after officials said he cut off his court-ordered monitoring device about a month ago and fled to a relative’s house. Scott T. Jacques, 25, had been released from prison after being convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child. Jacques was charged with being a fugitive from justice and was being held in DuPage County jail Friday on a $100,000 bond, authorities said. He’s due to appear in court Friday. Police said the arrest followed a citizen’s tip.
Lions donate to Easter Seals:
The Naperville Noon Lions Club has donated $8,995 to Easter Seals of DuPage to upgrade its infant audiological testing system. Every year, 350 to 400 infants in Illinois are diagnosed with significant hearing loss. The new system will enable the Villa Park-based Easter Seals center to diagnose hearing loss in infants as young as 2 to 3 months old. Easter Seals, which also has centers in Naperville, Bolingbrook and Elgin, provides care regardless of a client’s ability to pay. The Villa Park phone number for Easter Seals is (630) 620-4433.
United Way names directors:
The United Way of the DuPage Area introduced its 2006 board of directors at its annual meeting recently. Arlene Kowalczyk of Downers Grove continues as president and Walker Geyer of Wheaton remains vice president. Newly elected Carole Long of Downers Grove will serve as secretary. Mike Fehlen of Glendale Heights remains treasurer. Other board members are Jean Baker of Elmhurst, Jerry Broz of Lisle, Jon Emerson of Glen Ellyn, Barb Intihar of Wheaton, Bridget Johnson of Woodridge, Jerry Konrardy of Lombard, Robert Larsen of Wheaton, Bill Lyman of Elmhurst, Philip Mavon of Hinsdale, Jan Moushon of Westmont, Philip Smith of Winfield, Rachel Thomases of Wheaton, Donald Tomes of Wheaton, Jean Utley of Wheaton, Erin Vaughan of Westmont and Greg Williams of Plainfield.
