PSYCHIATRIST TO SURRENDER MEDICAL LICENSE

An Upland psychiatrist has agreed to surrender his medical license as of today to settle sexual misconduct accusations brought by four former patients.
Dr. Kenneth R. Jones was accused of molesting or attempting to molest four female patients between 1981 and 1991, according to the California Medical Board.
Jones also was accused of persuading one of the patients to loan money to a company in which Jones had an interest. The company defaulted on the loan, and Jones repaid the client only after she threatened to sue him, according to the state’s accusation.
The state board filed its initial complaint against Jones in July 1993, and filed additional accusations this summer.
In September, Jones signed a stipulation in which he did not acknowledge wrongdoing, but agreed to surrender his medical license.
Because the state medical board needed to approve the agreement, and it generally allows physicians time to close their offices, the agreement did not take effect until today, a state medical board investigator said.
Jones, who practiced in Fontana and Upland and had an office in Victorville, could not be reached yesterday for comment.
He was accused of the attempted rape of one long-term patient, of having sex with a second female patient, and of having sexual relations with two other women he had seen professionally.
The patients accused him of demanding oral sex in return for therapy and prescribing a visit to a male prostitute, among other violations of professional conduct. In a state medical board hearing last year, Jones denied the accusations.
