A psychiatrist who sent anonymous faxes to black groups and individuals with messages such as “Happy James Earl Ray Day” has been convicted of harassment. Dr. Ernest Hendrickson was found guilty of 36 counts Wednesday. Each count is punishable by six months to a year in jail. Prosecutors said the messages were sent to specific targets, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Lynn Swann and other black people and groups. Hendrickson admitted sending hundreds of faxes, but said he chose the numbers at random. He is to be sentenced next week.
