Nottinghamshire psychiatrist who saw patients without a licence discovers punishment

A doctor who saw Nottinghamshire patients for three months despite not having a licence has been suspended. Dr Piotr Pierzchniak was seeing more than 40 patients a week at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust when he had his licence to practice withdrawn in 2022.

A hearing, which took place this month, was told that Dr Pierzchniak treated vulnerable patients as a Consultant Psychiatrist without a licence for 13 and a half weeks. This happened between February 18, 2022, and May 25, 2022, when the doctor said he became aware his licence had been withdrawn and ceased working.

The tribunal was told that Dr Pierzchniak found out about the situation after his secretary informed him of a phone call she had received from a local pharmacist who queried the practitioner’s licence to practice.
