COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA
Disciplinary Actions
Dr. Hugh McRae BACON (Retired)
Victoria, BC

Following the issuance of disciplinary charges, Dr. Bacon, a retired
psychiatrist, has admitted that he was guilty of infamous conduct. Dr.
Bacon retired from medical practice in June 1998 and since that time
has been on the Retired Life Member Register of the College and has
not practiced medicine.

The disciplinary charges issued by the College were that Dr. Bacon
engaged in sexual touching and sexual intercourse with a female
patient whom he had treated in the 1990s. Dr. Bacon denied the
allegations of sexual intercourse but admitted the sexual touching.

Specifically, he admitted that he had the patient sit on his lap in the
office, and sexually touch and fondle him.

Following consultation with the patient, the College accepted Dr.
Bacon’s limited admissions on the basis that his conduct was so
reprehensible that erasure was warranted. The penalty imposed was
as follows:

a. Dr. Bacon will be erased from the Retired Life Member Register
of the College, such erasure to be considered effective 2400 hours, July 31, 2006;

b. Dr. Bacon will not reapply for registration with the College or
apply to any other jurisdiction to practice medicine or any
employment related to the practice of medicine.
