A North Vancouver psychiatrist has been ordered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. to have a chaperon present when treating female patients.

The college imposed the interim condition on Dr. Paul Eric Termansen on June 16 after complaints from three former patients.

The allegations included kissing and embracing, comments of a sexual nature and a joint business venture that resulted in negative financial consequences and a possible lawsuit, said the college in a public notice on its website.

Termansen is also required to post signs in the reception and patient rooms about the chaperon requirement, and to inform the college of a change in his clinic’s location. The chaperon is not required for group sessions.

Termansen has denied the allegations, said the college. And the allegations are unproven.
